The First Defense to Combat Aging and Skin Damage

Spring is in full bloom and so are the outdoor activities that we all love to partake in, which also means, fun in the sun, WAHOO! As promised, my goal is to keep you looking and feeling your best. So for our first no-makeup Monday, let’s focus on keeping our skin beautiful and reduce the signs of aging that the sun’s ultraviolet rays can cause.

For the best sunscreen options that are also super healthy, I turned to my friend Heather Happy, who works as an Esthetician at Cool Springs Plastic Surgery. She is the smartest woman I know when it comes to skin care and anti-aging.

When I asked Heather what products she recommends for anti-aging and sun protection, she mentioned three different brands. Elta MD Skincare, Paula’s Choice, and Revision Intellishade. Each one of these products are used, loved, and hands down the best products on the market.

  1. Elta MD sunscreen boosts moisture retention to diminish fine lines, protects skin with antioxidants, and softens the skin. These products are formulated with transparent zinc oxide and are noncomedogenic, sensitivity-free, fragrance-free, and paraben-free. You also have the option for a tinted or un-tinted sunscreen. I would suggest only using the tinted product if you have lots of pigment or golden tones to your skin. Also, the products are specific to your skin type, which I love! Elta MD also sells a UV lip balm with SPF 31. Find out below which Elta MD sunscreen is best for you. Each sunscreen is available by clicking here and searching the product name.
  • UV Daily is for normal to combination skin – SPF 40
  • Acne prone? Use UV Clear is for acne, Rosacea or Hyper pigmentation – SPF 46
  • UV Facial is for dry skin – SPF30+
  1. Paula’s Choice Resist Super-Light Wrinkle Defense SPF 30 is formulated with antioxidants for more even looking and firmer skin. It also has a matte finish and can take place of your makeup primer. This product is for combination to oily skin, sensitive skin, excess oil and enlarged pores. I personally used this one all last summer and loved it. Paula’s Choice also offers other formulas high in SPF for normal to dry/very dry skin and redness relief. Their product, Resist, is an anti-aging lip gloss with SPF 40.
  2. Revision Intellishade is an award-winning product that has SPF 45 and comes in tinted to naturally blend with your skin and give a sheer glow. Its anti-aging formula helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and also brightens the skin. To purchase, click the product name and search “Revision Intellishade Original SPF 45.”

It’s pretty cool that Revision Intellishade has a tint to it right? Speaking of tint, let’s also talk about using these products as tinted moisturizers.

All three products can be used as a 2 in 1 moisturizer and sunscreen and can be mixed with your foundation for a true color match to make it 3 in 1 – WHAT THE WHAT!? Awesome, right? So now, instead of just having a moisturizer, sunscreen and sheer foundation with these products, you have a customized dream team that’s amazing for your skin, fights off all of those bad rays and totally has your back, I mean face 😉 Talk about getting the most for your money. Make sure to apply on the face, neck and décolleté.

If you’re not in the mood to create a dream team, and would rather go straight to the counter for a great all-in-one product, I would highly recommend IT Cosmetics CC Cream with SPF 50. Prior to putting this product on your face, I recommend using No. 50 Serum Anti-Aging Collagen Veil Primer. This serum is great because it keeps makeup out of your pores and helps give a flawless finish. You can also use the serum over your night cream to lock in moisture.

Then, using the IT Cosmetics Airbrush Complexion Perfection Brush #115, apply the It Cosmetics CC Cream. If you have oily skin, this product can take the place of your moisturizer and with this CC Cream, you can get full coverage or use a brush and thin it out for a more sheer finish. This product comes in 7 shades and promises to diffuse the look of wrinkles, minimize pores and give you a radiant, flawless looking complexion. What more could you ask for?

One last product that is great for everyday wear is the oil-free, Tinted Moisturizer made by Laura Mercier. This product has SPF, it goes on sheer and gives your skin a nice finishing glow.
